Police Roxanne interpreted by Microsoft SongSmith

(OK, i see video a little too wide for width of column, oh well.)
I have been resisting putting up memmey stuff, cos that's elsewhere, but this"mashup" is stuck in my head, has been on and off for a few days.

It's the Mario Kart-ness of it that appeals to me, I imagine drumming turtles on a beach.

Another couple of interesting ones.

Intergalactic, (Beastie Boys)

White Wedding (Billy Idol)

I would like to hear these played by bands in the siilar style. What I find interesting about the Microsoft Songnmith software is the way it takes the vocals and pairs them together with melodies that are totally unrelated from the original context of the song. Especially in the White Wedding Hillbilly mashup. Does it in a way that a human wouldn't once they had head the original and were being influenced by it.

Reminds me of the idea behind Nouvelle Vague's reimaginings of new wave songs. (e.g. Their Love Will tear us Apart)

Olympus Cameras Pixel Remapping

I recently noticed that a few pixels on my Olympus E-510 were "stuck" (I'm not sure if these are the "hot" pixels, that I keep hearing about), they were red all the time, showing up most obviously in dark, nighttime photos. I thought "Oh noes, what am I to do" and that I'd have to take it in for repair and all that hassle. Then I discovered a utility on the camera software called Pixel Remapping hidden way down in the depths of the menu. I have no idea how it works, but after running the remapping option all the stuck red pixels are gone, photos are as they should be. I am relieved. Huzzah, Huzzah.

That's all.

BBC's (Beta) Multiplatform iPlayer Downloader

I've tried the Beta BBC iPlayer AIR app (which you can find out about here). It allows UK people (or those with proxy servers) to download those iPlayer files via an Adobe air app.

This the Mac OS is are being drawn into the BBC fold. Platform agnostic is the way to go. Web apps, Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight (is Silverlight available on Linux?.

A nice idea as I was sometimes having problems streaming. Alas not much good to me as my poor G5 PowerPC can't really keep up and the video is laggy (their specs suggest Intel Macs only). I hear there is some programme found here that can download files which you can play in quicktime - so don't have to use the air app to play the files, haven't tried it yet.

I guess it works for Linux too? I don't know, hope so.

A dull post. Doh.
